Exhibition Hall, Place des Arts
Tuesday to Friday (4 p.m. – 8 p.m.) | Saturday and Sunday (12 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
In collaboration with JOAT Art & Street Dance and Danse Danse, photographer Do Phan Hoi presents Six Steps - L'exposition, a series of black-and-white photographic portraits with a raw, timeless aesthetic that celebrates the richness and singularity of Montréal’s street dance scene.
MARCH 26 > APRIL 24 Tuesday to Friday: 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Exhibition Hall, Place des Arts
Inspired by the 1980s and 1990s, the exhibition captures far more than faces: each image bears witness to the artists who have shaped, embodied, and elevated this culture over the decades. Through their gazes, stances, and presence, an entire collective memory comes into focus.
More than an exhibition, Six Steps is an act of recognition — a vibrant tribute to a community whose movement, struggles, and innovations have helped define a distinct artistic language. Behind the lens is an informed and deeply committed eye: that of an artist from within the same community, documenting with sensitivity and strength the living traces of a shared history.
Open to the general public and dance enthusiasts alike, the exhibition invites audiences to discover an essential facet of Québec’s cultural heritage — one that moves, breathes, and speaks through the body.
To go further: Roundtable discussion
Set directly next to Do Phan Hoi’s exhibition, this roundtable offers a unique experience where participants can observe, exchange ideas, and reflect on on transmission in the world of street dance.
