Rebellious bodies

The new darling of the European dance scene, Portuguese choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira presents his most ambitious work, celebrating the contemporary body with phenomenal intensity.

A self-taught choreographer and former elite swimmer, Marco da Silva Ferreira quickly developed his own language inspired by a variety of urban and popular influences. He shares an explosive energy with Hofesh Shechter, for whom he has also danced. For Ferreira, the body is above all political, a catalyst for exploring community, memory and cultural crystallization. An eclectic cast of 10 performers, accompanied by a percussionist and an electronic musician, form a vibrant, rebellious and carnivalesque ensemble in search of a collective identity. In a constant flow of movement, they electrify the stage with continuous footwork that soon combines with movements derived from voguing and house dance, as well as timeless traditional forms. “A breathtaking journey.” (Télérama, Paris)

His path was self-taught through dance styles that evolved in an urban context with Afro-descendant influences. Between 2002 and 2010, the focus and lexicons of dance became increasingly diverse and closer to contemporary improvisation tools and composition.
