about

Presented by The Cultch
Produced by Pi Theatre (Vancouver)

Written and Performed by: Joey Lespérance
Directed by: Richard Wolfe

From their youngest days as children in suburban Montreal, brothers Joey and Michel found freedom on makeshift backyard stages, performing for family and neighbors in working-class Quebec of the ’60s and ’70s. In a world that offered few spaces for self-expression, these moments of play became a lifeline and a way of expressing who they really were.

Joey became a performer in Vancouver, while Michel lit up Montreal’s drag scene before embracing her true identity as Michelle, the woman she had always known herself to be.

In his first solo show, inspired by his own life, Joey Lespérance delivers a powerful and deeply personal portrait of identity, resilience, and transformation. Through a story as intimate as it is expansive, Lespérance breathes life into his sibling’s journey, honoring a dream that might otherwise have been lost.

With honesty, compassion, striking humanity and undeniable humour, this autobiographical performance celebrates the complexities of family, the weight of societal expectations, and the courage it takes to live authentically.
