<p>Conceived by Sherry Yoon and designed by Jay Dodge, with technology by Carey Dodge, <em>Red Phone</em> is a conversation that you will not soon forget. Part theatre and part social intervention,<em> Red Phone</em> is an audience-to-audience performance that utilizes the intimacy of a phone call and the technology of a teleprompter. It takes place between two hand-crafted, fully enclosed phone booths outfitted with a vintage red phone and an integrated teleprompter. </p>
<p>Two at a time, audience members engage each other in a five-minute conversation in the booth. The act of having the conversation with an unseen partner provides an anonymity that adds to the intimacy of the performance, encouraging participants to be the actor in their own theatrical experience. <em>Red Phone</em> is a one-of-a-kind performance that has been described as the theatrical equivalent to singing in the shower. </p>
<p>Free of charge, anyone can walk up and into the booths with a friend or family member and spend 5 minutes engaging in some of the most urgent, touching, thought provoking conversations written by some of Canada’s most exciting writers. With a Canadian catalogue of over two dozen scripts and tour stops spanning from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, <em>Red Phone</em> is a truly national project.</p>

<p>Sherry J. Yoon, Artistic Director of Boca del Lupo, is a theatre creator and director with a passion for creating new performances through collaborative pursuits. With Boca del Lupo, Sherry has co-created more than 35 productions, including: Fall Away Home, an intergenerational site-specific production in the forest of Stanley Park; Photog, a large-scale show that toured across Canada and was created with interviews from prominent conflict photographers; and You Are It, as part of the Silver commissions from the Arts Club Theatre that investigates the complex dynamics between female friendships. During Sherry’s tenure, the company has received numerous awards, including the Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award, and Jessie Awards for Outstanding Production, Design, Actor, Ensemble, as well as the Critic’s Choice Innovation Award. Her productions have toured festivals and venues across Canada, Europe and Mexico. She co-created an online exhibition of Expedition, an iterative collaboration between Boca del Lupo and the Performance Corporation, and working on Net Zero, an interactive theatre installation about climate change that involves the audience charging a battery with a stationary bicycle. She is also a freelance director who has worked at the Richmond Gateway Theatre, Bard on the Beach, the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa Canada. </p>

<p>The Artistic Producer of Boca del Lupo since 2001, Jay Dodge was also part of the founding collective in 1996. During his tenure, the company has won the peer-assessed Alcan Performing Arts Award, and several Jesse Richardson Theatre Awards including seven nominations for the Critic’s Choice Award for Innovation and the Patrick O’Neill Award for best anthology with Plays2Perform@Home. Jay is a passionate set and video designer with Jessie Richardson Awards in both of those categories as well as a published playwright including a contribution to Boca del Lupo’s Red Phone project. His artistry is one of innovation and daring and his one man show, PHOTOG. featured interactive video, stunt rigging and verbatim text, touring to World Stage, Prismatic, Festival Trans Amerique and PuSh. Currently serving on the national board of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, Jay also has special interest in creative space making including as co-founder of celebrated colocation space PL1422, co-founder of the Granville Island Theatre District, and as project consultant for Video In/Video Out and Left of Main. </p>

<p>Carey is a board member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community. Carey is a multidisciplinary artist and technologist whose work focuses on sonic arts, interactivity, installations, sound design and performance. He studied Electroacoustics at Concordia University and received a Masters at the Sonic Arts Research Centre in Belfast. He has collaborated with hundreds of artists in the creation of works mostly in Vancouver but also Montreal, Toronto, the USA, UK & Ireland. </p>
<p>Through his work with Boca del Lupo in the unique role as a full-time technology director for a theatre company he as worked with the core creative team to continually expand, challenge and grow what is possible and what are impactful uses of technology for expressing artistic vision and connection with each other. </p>

<p>Carey Dodge est membre du conseil d’administration de la Communauté électroacoustique canadienne. Artiste multidisciplinaire et technologue, il s’intéresse aux arts sonores, à l’interactivité, aux installations, à la conception sonore et aux performances. Il a étudié l’électroacoustique à l’Université Concordia et il détient une maîtrise du Sonic Arts Research Centre, à Belfast. <p>Keith Barker is a member of the Métis Nation of Ontario. He is a playwright, actor, and theatre director from Northwestern Ontario, and the current Artistic Director at Native Earth Performing Arts in Toronto. Winner of the Dora Mavor Moore Award and the Playwrights Guild’s Carol Bolt Award for best new play, he was also a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for English Drama in 2018 for his play, <a href="http://mqlit.ca/plays/this-is-how-we-got-here/"><em>This Is How We Got Here</em></a>. Keith received a Saskatchewan and Area Theatre Award for Excellence in Playwriting for his play, <a href="http://mqlit.ca/plays/the-hours-that-remain/"><em>The Hours That Remain</em></a>, as well as a Yukon Arts Award for Best Art for Social Change .</p>

<p>Member of the National System of Art Creators of Mexico. As an actress, she has participated in more than sixty works under the direction of renowned directors. Her work is published by publishers in Mexico, Spain and Argentina. She has been awarded by national and international institutions. "Mestiza Power", from her authorship, is part of the didactic anthology of Mexican theater and in 2011 she receives a recognition from the government of the state of Yucatan, for its five hundred performances. Her theater has been presented in important forums and festivals in Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Germany and the United States. In 2011, she received recognition from the Human Rights Commission of Yucatan for her social work through theater.</p>

<p>Tara Beagan is a proud Ntlaka’pamux and Irish “Canadian” halfbreed. She is cofounder/director of ARTICLE 11 with Andy Moro and based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary.) Their feature film Reckoning will premiere in 2023.Beagan served as Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts from February 2011 to December 2013. Beagan has been in residence at Cahoots Theatre, NEPA, the National Arts Centre, Berton House, and most recently Prairie Theatre Exchange. Seven of her 35 plays are published. Two plays have received Toronto’s Dora Award nominations, one win. In 2020, Honour Beat won the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama. Recent writing includes Rise, Red River for PTE (premiering in 2024 with PTE, Theatre Circle Moliere and A11), Nice White Lady for Necessary Angel, and Ride or Die for Sunny Drake Productions, produced by Downstage.</p>
<p>Beagan is a Dora and Betty nominated actor, recently appearing in Theatre Calgary’s Little Women as well as Vertigo’s The Extractionist. Most recently Beagan was nominated for directing her play The Ministry of Grace for Making Treaty 7. Along with protégé Joelle Peters, Beagan is the 2020 laureate of the Siminovitch Prize for Theatre. </p>

<p>Yvette Nolan (Algonquin) is a playwright, director and dramaturg. Born in Prince Albert, raised in Winnipeg, she has lived and worked across the country. Her plays include <em>The Unplugging</em>, <em>Annie Mae’s Movement</em>, <em>The Birds</em>, <em>The Diviners</em> (with Vern Thiessen). She also works in opera, as the librettist and co-director of <em>Shanawdithit</em>, the librettist of <em>Sophia</em>, and the director of <em>Indians on Vacation</em>. She co-created, with Joel Bernbaum and Lancelot Knight, the verbatim play <em>Reasonable Doubt</em>, about relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan. From 2003-2011, she served as Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts. Her book, <em>Medicine Shows</em>, about Indigenous performance in Canada was published by Playwrights Canada Press in 2015.</p>

He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Theatre. Ian Ross has written for theatre, film, television and radio. Ross’s play “Heart of a Distant Tribe” was published in the Manitoba anthology A Map of the Senses: 20 Years of Manitoba Plays, edited by Rory Runnells (Scirocco). His play fareWel, which garnered him the 1997 Governor General Award for Drama, is a dark comedy about Native life on the fictional Partridge Crop Reserve. </p>
